About the Speaker

Trained in Bharatanatyam at Kalakshetra, Madras when the founder Smt Rukmini Devi Arundale was at the head of the institution. Ms. Anjana Rajan has been teaching and performing Bharatanatyam for over three decades. For the past few years she hasworked in dance theatre and classical Indian theatre projects. She has choreographed or performed in or directed (or combinations of these) productions of Sanskrit plays using the classical theatre approach. More recently she was invited as an actor trainer and director for projects at the Shri Ram Centre, New Delhi. These included ‘Bhagavadajjukam’, in January 2019, a Sanskrit play attributed to Bodhayan (done in Hindi translation); and in December 2019, Rabindranath Tagore’s “Rakta Karobi” (‘Lal Kaner’ in Hindi), which also she presented using classical techniques like dance, instrumental music and song.
